Recycled fashion

Mira Bangel

Funny idea: My flatmate showed me a little purse she got from a friend that was made of a ‘recycled’ sauce pack. Browsing around online I found this UK based shop called DoyBags that sells recycled bags, household items and accessories that are made of recylced drinking & sauce packs.

How a doy bag is made:

Not only that a lot of the syntetic cloths we were are made of petrochemicals – there’s obviously for many people also a psychological aspect that makes it impossible for them to imagine a world without fashion & shopping. How to behave sustainable without giving up a passion for shopping? That’s probably why Eco fashion and organic fashion have become quite established terms. There are a whole range of brands focussing on this segment of ‘sustainable shoppers’. So many that one may wonder whether this trend does not rather reinforce consume (see this article).

Anyhow. The idea is really cool. Let me know if you have heard of similar initiatives :)

Hi – we’re holding a fashion fair in Birmingham on 21 Feb for a range of exciting brands making clothing from recycled materials, see here: http://www.remadefashionfair.info

    Thanks for the link, Joe.

Looks like a very exciting event you will have there in Birmingham. And like some promising designs as well. Good luck with the show!

Will you have some image/video material online? It would be great to see/ publish these :)

    Best wishes,

    Mira
