The other day I went to the a session at the Imagination club site in Brussels.


The format of this gathering is quite simple:

• One person gives a workshop on any creative (preferably non commercial) topic.
• Anyone can come and join the workshop for a small donation to cover snacks and room rent.
• The presenter gets a round of feedback where people can say what they liked, what could be improved and what new things they take with them.

Simple format, a very relaxed atmosphere, an inspirational workshop and a nice drink with participants afterwards rounded off a very nice evening.

Developing a project is like gardening. If you nurture your plants and manage to get the right mix of planning, people and resources together the outcome can grow into overwhelming dimensions.

Some may think this is what should happen to a good idea.
You need to watch out what you plant because a simple idea can grow into an enormous project.

Is a wide outreach and an enormous buzz really what you had in mind? Is it necessary to fulfil your projects’ objectives? This might be true for an awareness campaign or for a music concert.

But if you are only a handful of people (or just you) who will take care of all the follow up around the ‘buzz‘ you’ve created? Someone that feels involved and does not get a response from you can often cause much more trouble than somebody that is not aware of your idea.

Is the growth you are planning to invest in necessary and sustainable?
Maybe the timing is not right or the next recession comes around the corner…

A small team of dedicated individuals that feel strong about your idea will help you advance your project almost like ambassadors. Make effective use of your resources before you start to expand.

The advise: Keep it small and look after your plants.
